From NHS Admin to Kome Care: My Journey Through the UK Healthcare System

When I first stepped into the world of healthcare, I never could have predicted the incredible journey that would lead me to where I am today—founder and owner of Kome Care, a nursing agency that provides skilled nurses and compassionate domiciliary care services across the UK. Each step of my journey, from my days as an NHS administrator to becoming a surgical nurse and now a business owner, has shaped both who I am and what Kome Care stands for.

I'm thrilled to share that Kome Care is fully CQC registered, ensuring that the care we provide meets the highest standards set by the Care Quality Commission. This accreditation means that we are committed to quality, safety, and exceptional patient care in all aspects of our service delivery. Additionally, we have recently been awarded a place on the HealthTrust Europe and Total Workforce Alliance Frameworks, further solidifying our status as a trusted provider for NHS trusts and healthcare organizations across the UK.

The Beginning: From Jobcentre to NHS Admin
My healthcare journey began in a non-clinical role. After securing a work placement through the job centre as an NHS administrator, I gained valuable insight into how vital administrative roles are to the smooth running of the NHS. I worked across various departments and learned how the entire system relies on a balance of clinical and non-clinical support.

Observing the dedication and compassion of the medical staff, I felt drawn to nursing. I knew I wanted to be more involved in patient care, and that initial experience gave me the foundation to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse.

Exploring Different Roles: From Healthcare Assistant to Registered Nurse
Before going into nursing, I gained hands-on experience through a variety of NHS bank roles. I worked as a healthcare assistant (HCA) in different departments, where I saw the challenges nurses face, especially during times of staff shortages. In 2014, I began my formal nursing education, with a clear goal: to provide care that was both skilled and compassionate.

My time as a student nurse was demanding but rewarding. Balancing my studies with bank shifts helped me develop practical skills in real-time, building my confidence and my understanding of patient care. I graduated in 2017 as a registered nurse and started my full-time career in surgical nursing. This role equipped me with the ability to handle high-pressure situations, make quick decisions, and provide excellent care.

However, it also opened my eyes to the broader staffing challenges faced by the NHS. This led to my interest in agency nursing and, ultimately, the desire to start my own nursing agency.

The Leap to Agency Nursing and Beyond
As an agency nurse, I worked across various departments, gaining a wide range of experiences. The flexibility was refreshing, but it also revealed gaps in how agency nurses were sometimes utilized without adequate preparation or support. I wanted to create an agency that could address these challenges, ensuring that both nurses and healthcare providers received the support they needed to deliver quality care.

Founding Kome Care: Compassionate, Professional, and Quality-Assured Care
In 2020, I founded Kome Care with the vision of providing reliable, high-quality nursing and domiciliary care services. Our aim has always been to place skilled, adaptable nurses in NHS trusts while offering compassionate care to clients in their own homes. We are proud to be CQC registered, which means that every aspect of our service—from staffing to patient safety—meets the rigorous standards required by the Care Quality Commission. Being CQC registered is a significant milestone, as it ensures that Kome Care operates with transparency, accountability, and a focus on delivering safe, effective care. This registration is not just a tick-box requirement—it reflects our dedication to maintaining high standards and continuous improvement in everything we do. We have also expanded into providing domiciliary care services, addressing the growing demand for quality home care across the UK. Our team of nurses and caregivers helps clients maintain their independence while ensuring they receive the medical and personal support they need in the comfort of their own homes.

Joining HealthTrust Europe and the Total Workforce Alliance Framework
One of the recent highlights of our journey has been securing a place on the HealthTrust Europe and Total Workforce Alliance Frameworks. This achievement is a reflection of our commitment to delivering high-quality staffing solutions that meet the evolving needs of NHS trusts and healthcare organizations.

Being part of these frameworks opens new doors for Kome Care to collaborate with healthcare providers across the UK, offering reliable, flexible staffing solutions while maintaining the exceptional quality of care for which we are known. It also reaffirms our place as a trusted partner for hospitals and care organizations that require experienced, skilled nurses who can seamlessly integrate into their teams.

Challenges and Triumphs Along the Way
Starting Kome Care during the pandemic was no easy feat. The healthcare landscape was rapidly changing, and we had to navigate evolving regulatory requirements, shifts in client needs, and the increasing demand for qualified nursing staff. But my background in both the clinical and administrative sides of healthcare equipped me with a unique understanding of the challenges faced by both nurses and healthcare providers.

Now, with Kome Care thriving and our recent CQC registration and inclusion in the HealthTrust Europe and Total Workforce Alliance Frameworks, we are excited to grow even further. These achievements underscore our commitment to delivering quality, compliant care across all areas of service.

Looking to the Future
Reflecting on my journey from NHS admin to nurse and now the proud owner of Kome Care, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences and challenges that have shaped me. These experiences have not only built my career but also provided the foundation for a business that is dedicated to delivering high-quality care that meets the needs of both healthcare providers and patients.

At Kome Care, our mission is to continue growing, evolving, and delivering care that is not only compassionate but also meets the highest standards of safety and quality. With our CQC registration and recognition through the HealthTrust Europe and Total Workforce Alliance Frameworks, we are ready to take the next step in our journey, serving even more clients and healthcare organizations across the UK.

This is only the beginning, and I can’t wait to see where the future takes us.
